Almost all salmon species are born in fresh water, live the majority of their lives in ocean waters, and return to their birth waters to spawn before they die. Salmon are found in both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Salmon in The group of salmon found in the Atlantic are simply known as Atlantic salmon due to their similarities. The groups of Pacific run salmon are much more diverse with several distinguishable species.
