Buggers and Stillwater Pattern Flies:
Some of the most productive flies that can be tied
The Woolly Bugger fly pattern has to be one of the most productive streamer patterns to ever be created. Over the last few decades the woolly bugger style of flies have without a doubt accounted for more and larger fish being duped than with any other freshwater fly; it resembles many edible creatures including small baitfish, water-nymphs, craw, leeches, hellgrammite, or even small sculpins. Over the past years many variants have been added that are even more productive in situations - some better than the originals and some not.
Woolly Buggers are typically fished in streams, rivers, ponds, lakes, and tidal flats. Today, Woolly Buggers are tied in a wide variety of styles and colors to imitate a wide range of game fish prey. I always keep these in my fly box and I go after several species with them. |
