Albemarle Sound is a unique blend of fresh and brackish water provide
a great selection of fish. Striped bass never leave the area, while
largemouth bass and crappie are found in nearly every creek and backwater.
Flounder, red drum and weakfish hang out in the main basin.
Very productive areas include the Chowan, Roanoke, Pasquotank, Little,
Perquimans, and the Alligator rivers.
The many marinas and launch ramps in Manteo, Wanchese and Oregon Inlet
make that area an ideal destination for fishermen and boaters. Oregon
Inlet and Manns Harbor are famous for wintertime runs of large striped
bass. Many other species inhabit the region seasonally. Featured Species:
Bluefish, Cobia, Flounder, False Albacore, King Mackerel, Red Drum, Spanish
Mackerel, Spotted Seatrout, Striped Bass and Weakfish. See
