Kansas has a very progressive fishery and a great variety of fishing. There are 24 large reservoirs in Kansas ranging from 1,200 to 16,000 surface acres. Fishing is the number one attraction, and reservoir anglers have a variety of fish to catch including crappie, largemouth bass, white bass, catfish, walleye, striped bass, wipers, and others. Other special programs include the trout program, which provides catchable-size trout in select waters across the state.

Kansas has some of the best catfishing to be found
. Channel catfish are found in nearly every stream, river, pond, lake, and reservoir in the state. Monster flatheads weighing 60, 70 and even 80 pounds are caught each summer. There is also good blue catfish fishing.

For those who prefer smaller waters, there are plenty to choose from. The fisheries owns and operates more than 40 state fishing lakes. These impoundments can be as small as 50 acres or as large as 300. More than 200 community lakes are owned by local governments. There are more than 10,000 miles of streams and rivers in Kansas, most of which are privately owned. The three navigable rivers - the Arkansas, Missouri, and Kansas - are open to the public. More than 150,000 privately-owned farm ponds also provide outstanding fishing opportunities.

There's no doubt that Kansas fishing has come a long way. Anglers can specialize in catfish or crappie, wipers or walleye, or better yet, they can fish for them all - or something else entirely!!

SonarMap, Inc.

SonarMap, Inc. was established in 2000 to create a more accurate high definition fishing map. See a sample of these fine maps. Using advanced computerized hydrographic survey technology, they collected thousands of man-hours of data including water depth, lake bottom characteristics, sonar imagery and global positioning points for selected Minnesota lakes. SonarMap, Inc. then edited the survey data files to create maps marketed under the trade name ReelBottom® Fishing Maps. In response to their customers' requests for high quality maps of more of their favorite lakes, they are proud to offer Navionics® digital and paper maps.
