Duck and waterfowl hunting is very rewarding, but difficult, for the sportsman. There is always something to learn complicated by the changing nature of waterfowl hunting. There are many good writeups on the web, including the Ducks
Unlimited Enjoy waterfowl hunting but please stay legal. The regulations for taking waterfowl can be complicated. Please see both your local and national wildlife folks for the latest in regulations. A significant part of hunting legal is being able to identify ducks flying fast at a distance. This can be tough for beginning duck hunters and everyone else - especially on "air-ish" days or for those who do not see as good as we once did. Increase your ID skills by visiting the Ducks Unlimited ducks ID site. This site includes pictures and sounds. The USGS also has a Ducks at a Distance-- A Waterfowl Identification Guide that is very nice. Ducks, like other migrating birds, ducks and all waterfowl very quickly learn shooting patterns and will avoid them. Decoys will definitely help attract ducks as will calls. |

Be sure to pick up you lake and coastal maps, topo maps, or Delorme Atlas as the best hunting will be over water.
