The state's mild climate promotes a year-round season for the many game fish that thrive here, including more than 175 species of freshwater fish. The most popular freshwater game species include bass (largemouth, smallmouth and striped), bream (redear and bluegill), crappie (white and black) and catfish (channel, blue and flathead). Light tackle anglers and deep-sea enthusiasts alike can enjoy the diversity of the game fish in the rich estuaries and marshes of the back bays and barrier islands as well as in the Gulf of Mexico. A vast array of deep-sea charters is available. Experienced outfitters provide knowledge, tips, and tricks that will prove invaluable as you follow your passion.

Crappie is king in this reservoir. Since 1957, a 5-pound, 3-ounce white crappie holds the world record. The average crappie is 1-pound, while largemouth bass average 3-pounds! Channel cats and flatheads are also available at this lake.

Grenada Lake supports excellent crappie and largemouth bass populations. All three types of catfish do well here, with monster flatheads up to 60 pounds reported! The large white bass population is underfished. White Crappie and Black Crappie.

As with other lakes in the state, crappie is Sardis Lake's main attraction, taking up nearly 90% of the angling pressure. Quality fish are found, most weighing around 1-pound. Nice largemouth, channel and blue cats too!
